Cabo del Sol (Cove Club)
Cabo del Sol is home to two top-quality 18-hole championship layouts, the now private Cove Club course (formerly known as the Ocean course) and the also excellent Cabo del Sol course (formerly the Desert course). The generally higher-rated Nicklaus-designed Cove Club course is one of the top-rated and finest championship layouts in Mexico.
Located at the "Bahía de las Ballenas" (Bay of the Whale) on the Sea of Cortés (Gulf of California), this excellent desert-style, oceanside course contains a wealth of wonderfully crafted, memorable and challenging holes. Plenty of arroyos, sand traps and other obstacles will test your shot-making.
As the layout glides past several mansion-like villas, you'll also enjoy the seven Cove Club holes that are on the ocean, four on the front-nine and three on the back.
Pick of the holes: the par-3, 190-yard 6th hole is about as close as you can get to the Sea of Cortés without falling in. Set on a granite ledge overlooking the water, the left front of the green is almost in touching distance of the waves. The finishing hole, guarded by desert and cactus on the right and rock cliffs leading to the sea on the left, is modelled on the eighteenth at Pebble Beach.
