Pinewild Country Club (Magnolia course)

4-PLUS: Must play course - excellent standard; worthy of 4½ stars.

Est. 1988

Pinewild Country Club (Magnolia course): Pinewild is able to boast two excellent championship golf courses, the Magnolia and Holly, as well as a nine-hole par-3 course and a three-hole academy course.

Pinewild's very handsome Magnolia course is clearly one that stands shoulder to shoulder with Pinehurst's elite. The quality of upkeep, attractiveness of the gently undulating layout and overall facilities are top draw. Beautiful, cathedral like corridors of majestic pines line most of the good-width fairways, with not infrequent real estate kept a good distance from the course.

There's not a weak hole among the 18. Some of the best utilise the most significant elevation changes; the par-3 3rd, par-4 11th and par-5 13th and 18th holes are all sumptuous downhillers played from wonderfully elevated tees. This back-nine downhill trio also have strategically placed water hazards to be factored in, although this is the only water you'll need to contend with. Elsewhere it is excellent bunkering and occasional sandy waste areas that will test your course management.

The often large, sometimes very large, well-paced greens are home to many slopes and borrows, adding further to the pleasant though often challenging character of the Magnolia. With many dogwoods and magnolias adding splashes of colour in the spring months, here indeed is one of the classic stars in Pinehurst's glittering array of top-quality courses.

Who's Who

Nelly Korda: records a perfect start to 2024 with four wins out of her last four appearances on the LPGA Tour, a feat last achieved by Lorena Ochoa in 2008. Korda's win at the T-Mobile Match Play brought up her 12th LPGA Tour victory.

Scottie Scheffler: narrowly missed out on matching Nelly Korda’s three-in-three, when he placed second at the Houston Open. This followed back-to-back wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players. Like Korda, he remains comfortably ahead in the official world golf rankings.
