Where2Golf says:

The Golf Club at La Quinta: Formerly known as Trilogy at La Quinta, the now named Golf Club at La Quinta is located at the most southerly end of the Coachella Valley's unique array of top-quality golf courses. This very good Gary Panks-design will test and challenge players of all skill levels (the world's No.1's included). Relatively flat desert terrain has been transformed into a well-groomed and grassy layout, with only occasional hints of the original desert wilderness remaining. The holes weave their way, individually or sometimes in pairs, through a residential development, generally with a buffer of desert scrub separating the course (and wayward shots) from the houses. Good-width fairways and not overly penal rough creates an inviting scene from the tee, especially with most holes also complemented by wonderful views onto the nearby Santa Rosa mountains.

Although there are no major elevation changes, the back-nine arguably has the more interesting holes, characterised by nicely elevated greens, gently undulating fairways and more water in play. The Trilogy's testing closing stretch, includes the dangerously water flanked par-5 16th, followed by the long par-3 17th, where a tee-to-green carry over water is required. Perhaps not the most dramatic layout in the Valley, but this well-presented golf course certainly has its charms and challenges - and plenty of memorable mountain views.

At this Stay & Play venue, the on-site accommodation is located close to the golf facilities.

Tournaments:
Walker Cup: The USA scored a convincing 15.5-10.5 win over their GB&I opponents in the 47th Walker Cup at Royal Liverpool. The USA amateurs won all but two of the Sunday singles matches.

Steve Stricker:  three-time Ryder Cup player and 12-time PGA Tour winner, defends his PGA Tour Champions, Sanford International title at Minnehaha CC (Sept 20-22).
