Who doesn’t know that NFL quarterback Peyton Manning is among the best in history? Not only has he won two Super Bowls and was named the NFL MVP five times.
For many Colorado sports fans out there he represents much more, as he was one the best Broncos players ever.
He spent 18 seasons in the NFL, mostly as a quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts before retiring with the Denver Broncos. He was the MVP of Super Bowl XLI and a two-time champion of the NFL. He was named to 14 Pro Bowls, tied for the second-most in history and the only quarterback to start the Super Bowl for two different teams more than once. Manning owned numerous NFL records by the time he walked away from the game, including passing yards (71,940), touchdown passes (539), and MVPs (5).
Peyton had an amazing career, though, after deciding to retire from the NFL, he returned to golf. In his junior years Manning won multiple junior championships. Now he plays frequently in celebrity tournaments and started his own golf competition to support the PeyBack Foundation, his charitable organization: the Peyton Manning Invitational. Furthermore he set up his own program on Golf Channel called "Manning on the Links".
In this article we will unlock the Golf Secrets of Football Legend Peyton Manning.
Manning’s passion for golf
The fact that former NFL quarterback Peyton Manning loves to play golf is no secret. He participated in a charitable match alongside Tiger Woods. Despite having played with the greatest player of all time, the former quarterback doesn't think of himself as the best golfer in his family.
Manning currently attends The Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tennessee, and has a strong 6.4 Index. He has played host to five USGA championships, including the U.S. Amateur in 1991.
He belongs to the Augusta National Golf Club since 2006 and has participated in The Jamboree, the club's yearly member-only event, alongside the renowned golfer Jack Nicklaus. Peyton's golf handicap is either a 5 or a 6, according to Nicklaus.
Manning's Tips for Golfing
Golf, as in any other sport, needs the athletic mind and body. After all, quarterbacks such as Peyton Manning's ability to adapt their athleticism to the golf swing is not surprising. Professional golfer's stance over the ball, instead of being rigid and angular, will be fluid and prepared to move.
Another tip taken from Manning’s golf tactics is being challenged. In case you haven’t noticed yet, he thrives in challenging courses. In fact, Manning doesn't back down when things get a little bit difficult and the Honors Course can be a bear indeed. Of the twenty rounds he played in 2020, only one has been on a course with a slope of less than 137, and eight of them have been on courses with a slope of 140 or more.
During this year’s Amateur Championship held in the Cherry Hills Country Club in Colorado, Manning agreed to chair the event as an honorary member: “I am honored to represent the state of Colorado, the city of Denver, and Cherry Hills as the honorary chair of the 2023 U.S. Amateur,” Manning said in a press release. “As someone who has great enthusiasm for not only the game of golf but also for competitive athletics and all the great things that can be learned through sports, I’m thrilled to have a role in this championship. I’m confident Colorado’s golf fans will join me in welcoming the game’s best amateur players to Denver.”
