Pinhal Golf Course (formerly part of the Oceânico Group) is one of five courses in Vilamoura now operated by Dom Pedro Golf. The others are: The Old Course, Laguna, Millennium and Victoria. Although not quite in the same league as Vilamoura's flagship Old Course, the Pinhal layout does bear some "family resemblances" to its slightly older stablemate.
Like the Old Course, Pinhal was originally designed by Frank Pennink. Pinhal's green-keeping standards may not be quite up there with its peer. And the amount of undulation and density of trees maybe less. But Pinhal's two nine-hole loops also offer a thorough test of your golfing skills, where hitting the right landing areas from the tee will serve you well.
Most of the holes here are played through a tightish tree-lined environment, with small villas also lining the way. Wildly flailing away with the "big stick" with OB and housing usually on the left side of the holes, is not necessarily the best strategy for low scoring around Pinhal. Although wayward shots can often be found somewhere in amongst the trees, chipping out sideways onto the fairway may often be your only option.
Pinhal's more undulating back-nine loop becomes a tad more open than the front-nine ... in parts. If, as can be the case, the going gets rather slow, the back-nine offers some pleasant glimpses of the sea, as well as views over Vilamoura.

Now operated by Dom Pedro Golf, five Vilamoura golf courses (The Old Course, Victoria, Laguna, Millennium and Pinhal) were formerly part of the Oceânico Group, a property developer and golf and resort operator in the Algarve. Approximately 30 km northwest of Vilamoura, at their Amendoeira Golf Resort near Alcantarilha, Oceânico still operate the Faldo and O'Connor Jnr courses.
