Newmachar, Aberdeenshire AB21 7UU
18 holes. Tree-lined & open heathland. Gently undulating terrain - a few slopes to climb.
Open countryside and woodland.
Dave Thomas designed both the Hawkshill course (1990) and Swailend course (1997).
Above distances are for the championship Hawkshill course. Also at Newmachar is the 18-hole Swailend course (par-72, 6388 yards from back tees, SSS 71).
2.5 mi S of Newmachar / 11 mi NW of Aberdeen.
Newmachar Golf Club is one of the more recent additions to the golfing scene around Aberdeen, especially if compared with the longevity of the seaside links offerings in the north-east of Scotland (the even more recent Trump Aberdeen excepted). The championship Hawkshill course lays down an excellent test of golf, and is complemented by the shorter and easier-going 18-hole Swailend layout. Both were designed by Dave Thomas.
Measuring over 6,700 yards from the medal tees, the Hawkshill course is set amongst mature silver birch and Scots pine trees. Occasional water hazards combine with strategic fairway and greenside bunkering to make this one of the toughest tests of golf in the area.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends.
Must book in advance.
Credit cards accepted. Contact club for full details, discounts, packages, etc. [Last updated: 2018].
Players generally walk this course. Golf carts available for hire.
Newmachar Golf Club is located between the village of that name, which lies a couple of miles to the north, and Aberdeen Airport (also referred to as Dyce) to the south.
