St Andrews Links (Strathtyrum Course)

3-star: Good course – an enjoyable test for your game.

Est. 1993

St Andrews Links (Strathtyrum Course): Furthest from the sea and shortest of the 18-hole layouts in St Andrews, the relatively compact Strathtyrum course is still capable of giving your game a good workout (especially for mid and higher handicappers). This enjoyable layout is worth a visit, prior to taking on the challenges of St Andrews' more demanding championship layouts.

On relatively flattish terrain close to the western approach road into St Andrews, Donald Steel has created a very pleasant course incorporating many fine links golf features. Gorse bushes and occasional pockets of fir trees will need to be factored into your course management on some holes. Plenty of mounding around the putting surfaces requires the greens are approached with good iron-play, following accurate driving from the tee.

Although water hazards are scarce and the 15 or so bunkers lack the ferocity of those on St Andrews' more revered courses, there's enough challenges here to test your game. The greens on the Strathtyrum are home to all manner of slopes and borrows, not least on three double-greens, that resonate with those on the revered Old Course.
