Where2Golf says:

Centurion Country Club: This relatively early Peter Matkovich design seems to draw its inspiration from both land and sea (and desert !). Both of the modestly undulating nine-hole loops start out "dry", with a good array of well-bunkered holes taking you alongside the development's real estate, which is mainly out of harm's way from stray tee-shots. As if to accentuate the drier opening stretches, you may think you are in the Arizona desert on a few holes. The long par-3 11th, for example, is complete with large expanses of sand, boulder outcrops and tall saguaro cactus. However, the desert dryness doesn't last. At the 6th & 7th, and again at the 15th & 16th, your introduction to water arrives, courtesy of the Henops River. The river brings with it a more natural and also tree-lined aspect to the course, but also the threat of hearing a splash from tee and approach shots. If you can stay above ground for these holes, then the closing pair on both nines are definitely designed to give you a dunking - all based on a single, good-sized lake. The 8th green, set in the middle of the lake, creates a wonderful island hole, just the green and its encircling bunker to aim at. The par-4 9th requires a hopscotch approach to be taken across two sections of the lake, or for the brave and foolhardy, there's the chance to take a direct pop at the green from the tee (wind permitting). The 17th & 18th are also played "lakeside", with water threatening all the way from tee to green on both holes.

Did you know?

The saguaro cactuses, as found at the par-3 11th hole, in fact only grow wild in the Sonoran desert, which extends across parts of Arizona, California and northern Mexico. Pronounced "sah-wah-roh", this is a slow growing plant, taking up to 75 years to develop a side arm. The arms are grown to increase the plant's reproductive capacity, with more surface area meaning more flowers and fruit. Some saguaros may live for more than 150 years.
