Empordà Golf Resort (Links course)

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 1990

Empordà Golf Resort (Links course): Previously comprising 27-holes, the addition of a further nine in 2004 gave Empordà the ability to create two 18-hole championship layouts - the Links and Forest courses. The Links course (originally the Green and Red nines) is an open links-style design, played among threatening lakes and rolling dunes. The Forest layout (originally the Blue and Yellow nines) meanders through tranquil pines, also with water hazards in attendance, especially on the Blue-nine.

Many of Von Hagge's trademark features are incorporated into these well-crafted and challenging courses. Dune-like mounding is the hallmark of Emporda's Links layout, with copious bunkering guarding the large and fast greens. A couple of par-5s are well over 500 metres and definitely not reachable in two by amateur golfers.

All four of Emporda's nine-hole loops are well-maintained and offer pleasant views onto surrounding hills, with the Pyrenees in the distance. A relatively new onsite Hotel & Spa makes this an ideal Catalonian Stay&Play venue.

The Emporda Resort, with its two championship golf courses and onsite hotel, sits in a flattish area of arable farmland, just below the River Ter. Although its headwaters are in the Pyrenees, the River Ter is also fed by smaller rivers and streams in the middle and lower plains.
