Real (Royal) Club de Golf El Prat (Rosa course)

4-PLUS: Must play course - excellent standard; worthy of 4½ stars.

Est. 1912

Real (Royal) Club de Golf El Prat (Rosa course): El Prat's members must be delighted with the outcome of Greg Norman's design work at their relatively new 45-hole golf club. The Rosa (Pink) layout embraces a tremendous variety of golfing challenges. With seven sets of tees to choose from, you can make those challenges as tough as you like.

The Rosa's front-nine is relatively flat and played in and out of a mature pine forest. When "in" the forest the narrow avenues of fairway feel frighteningly tight - not quite so daunting when you've played the course a couple of times.

By contrast the back-nine moves into a more open and undulating environment, with many really inspired holes and tremendous bunkering to match. Add to this excellent layout the panoramic views gained from the back-nine and, like the members, you can immerse yourself in the great pleasure of a round on the Rosa.

Pick of the holes: the par-3 11th is as good and as tough a par-3 as they come. The long and quite tight par-4 16th introduces the only occasion when you'll confront a water hazard, although a "sea of sand" surrounds the long par-3 6th.

Did you know?

The Barcelona Golf Club was originally established in 1912 in Pedralbes, just outside the city centre. The club was the initiative of some amateur golfers ... members of Barcelona’s nobility. Several years later King Alfonso XIII of Spain conferred the Royal prefix on the club.

In 1954, as a consequence of the city's expansion, the club was forced to move to a new location between El Prat de Llobregat and the sea; here the club adopted the name Real Club de Golf El Prat ("RCGEP"). The golf course at El Prat de Llobregat was eventually consumed by the ever-expanding Barcelona airport, forcing the club to move again in 2001. The airport's new runways buried many of the fairways ( ... evidence of which can be seen just southeast of the airport).

Real El Prat has hosted numerous top level national and international competitions, and is a regular venue for the Spanish Open Championship (see our Tournaments section >by Venue >El Prat).
