Laguna Phuket Golf Club

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 1992

Laguna Phuket Golf Club is home to a very pleasant parkland layout. Although not overly long at just over 6600 yards from the tips, its par of 71 contains several long and testing holes.

Laid out on relatively flat terrain in two out-and-back nine-hole loops, the nicely contoured and usually good-width fairways are often flanked by excellent quality bunkering, or water hazards, or on several occasions both. Mature trees of many varieties also play their part in defining the holes.

From time to time your shot-making will be critically examined, especially where the fairways are narrowed down or the approach shot demands great accuracy. The short par-4 doglegging 9th, for example, requires a well-placed tee-shot, followed by an accurate approach to an island green. Once safely on the greens you will find they are among the truest and fastest on Phuket island.

If ever there was a potential card-wrecker, its the long par-5 17th, a hole that poses all manner of challenges. From the tee there is water left and right. Water on the rightside continues all the way to the green, while several bunkers flank the leftside of the pencil-thin fairway.

Although villas and a few condominiums line some of the perimeter here, they tend to enhance rather than detract from the course, and are rarely in range. With occasional pleasant views onto Phuket's jungle-clad hills, this is not one of Thailand's most dramatic layouts, but certainly one where your game will be tested in a very pleasant and well-maintained parkland environment.
