How to get there:

35 km NE of Bangkok (Sukhumvit hotel area)

From the Sukhumvit area of downtown Bangkok, take the Ramindra Expressway until the end. Exit right onto route 304, direction Minburi. Go past the intersection with the Eastern Outer Ring Road (route 9). In Minburi stay on the 304, which becomes Suwinthawong Road. After approx 7 km entrance to golf is on your left after km marker 44.

Windsor Park & Golf Club (C & D course)

Windsor Park & Golf Club (C & D course): Formerly known as Panya Park, Windsor Park can now boast two 18-hole championship courses with the A, B and C nines being joined by the much newer and contrasting D-course. The C-course (Garden) has many similarities with the tree-lined, parkland style of the A & B courses (Lagoon & Palm), which feature gently contoured fairways, impressive bunkering and several boulder-edged water hazards. The treble row of electricity pylons that runs through much of the C-nine, does little however to enhance its scenic or garden-style appeal. Having returned to the clubhouse via the excellent par-5 9th on the C, you will board a shuttle to be whisked off to the D-nine, which starts and finishes about 1 km away, on the other side of a canal. The terrain here is considerably more open and undulating, with a good-sized lake in play on the opening holes. The pencil thin, sloping fairway of the short par-4 2nd invites a "go for it" drive at the green, even though water lies in wait for anything hit left, and OB for anything hit right. The par-5 3rd is also on the tightish side of comfortable, wrapped around the same lake and dog-legging sharply around the lake into an elevated green. To conclude this testing lakeside threesome, the long par-3 4th, played over water to a heavily bunkered green, requires many players to reach for their drivers on the tee. The D-course is quite unlike anything else you'll play around Bangkok - undulating, open and (at the moment) relatively treeless, the recently planted palms are still a long way from maturity.

Like so many clubs in and around Bangkok, the original 27-holes of Windsor Park were built on land that was originally flat, marshy rice fields. The excellent clubhouse caters to a wide variety of tastes, with Thai, Japanese, Chinese and Western cuisines all available. Windsor Park was formerly known as Panya Park, a member of the Panya Group of golf courses.

Tournaments

Tournament of Champions: the PGA Tour’s calendar-year starts, as it has done since 1999, with this iconic event in Hawaii. The field is drawn from players who won a PGA Tour event in 2022, or were amongst the top 30 in last year’s FedEx Cup final standings (Jan 6-9).

Desert Swing: the European (DP World) Tour launches into 2023 with three events in its UAE “Desert Swing”. Up first is the Abu Dhabi Championship (Jan 19-22), followed by the Dubai Desert Classic (Jan 26-29) and the Ras Al Kaimah Championship (Feb 2-5).

Who's Who

Kathy Whitworth: the end of 2022 saw the passing of LPGA Tour legend Kathy Whitworth. Her 88 LPGA Tour victories is more than achieved by any other golfer on either the LPGA or PGA Tours. Amongst her victories were six major championship titles.

Barry Lane: the golfing world was also saddened by the passing of Barry Lane, one of the European Tour and European Senior Tours most popular players. Enjoying success on both Tours, Lane was know for his excellent ball-striking and amiable personality.
