RTJ Golf Trail at Ross Bridge

5-PLUS: In the world’s elite - has few peers; one of our top-rated 5s!

Est. 2005

RTJ Golf Trail at Ross Bridge: The latest addition to Alabama's Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail is arguably the best. This newcomer is stunning - a big dimension course in which an outstanding and visually impressive layout combines with beautiful lakeside and woodland scenery. Its no wonder people are talking about this as a future Major championship course. Water, in the form of good-sized and sometimes steep-sided lakes, will be a menacing companion for over half the holes - from the challenging opening par-5 through to the closing, lake-hugging par-4.

The constantly undulating terrain here is nicely broken up by tall pine trees, which are sufficiently spaced to allow you to see through to other parts of this wonderful course. The large and occasionally super-size greens are fast and full slopes and borrows - a real test of your putting game and nerve. Occasional housing plots do not seem to intrude into the naturalness of the surroundings here, and the turreted Renaissance hotel also fits well with its surroundings. With additional features such as a working watermill, which doubles as the restrooms at the across-the-water par-3 4th, and a tumbling waterfall splitting the 9th and 18th greens, Ross Bridge is all set for a special place among the USA's top golf courses. Without doubt, this is golf with wow factor stamped all over it.

Traigh Golf Course (pronounced "try", and meaning "beach" in Gaelic): You'll find this nine-hole seaside gem on the scenic coast road (as opposed to the more inland and quicker A830) between Arisaig and Morar. Although not on the well-beaten path of Scotland's "trophy" courses, if you are passing through this area, it's a must play.
