Capitol Hill (Legislator)
RTJ Golf Trail - Capitol Hill (Legislator course): If you've only time to sample one of the three Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail courses at Capitol Hill, then the Legislator might be the one to choose. It is a composite of the two distinctive and contrasting styles of the neighbouring Judge and Senator courses, and then finishes with its own individual flourish.
This sometimes easy-going Legislator clearly wants to please all players - both in terms of scenery, playability and variety of holes. There are clear resemblances on the front-nine to the open links-style of the Senator, while the Judge's more traditional tree-lined, lakeside traits are most in evidence on the back-nine. Throughout, the Legislator has a pleasantly undulating disposition, with substantive bunkering and large greens full of slopes and borrows.
After the nicely undulating, partly open, partly wooded front-nine, which occasionally provides some scenic views of the large lake below, the 10th hole brings you down towards the edge of the lake. Here you'll have a brief opportunity to rub shoulders with the Judge, especially as you take on the excellent water-protected par-3 11th.
From the 12th hole you'll wind your way back up the side of a wooded ridge, via a testing sequence of tight par-4's, before reaching the par-3 16th and a wonderful stretch of closing holes on top of the ridge. This closing threesome, with the Senator course to your right, provide the best views over the lake and swamp 200 feet below, and away to wooded hills in the distance.

The Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail is a unique collection of eleven excellent golf venues spread through the State of Alabama. Dr. David Bronner, the then CEO of the organisation that ran the Alabama state-employees pension funds, originally conceived the idea of the Trail.
Bronner was convinced that creating a top-quality golf trail would attract golfers from near and far, raise Alabama's profile and at the same time earn a good return for the pension fund monies invested in the project - the world's largest golf course building project ever undertaken.
The original courses on the Trail (located at Hampton Cove, Silver Lakes, Oxmoor Valley, Capitol Hill, Grand National, Cambrian Ridge, Magnolia Grove, and Highland Oaks) were all designed by Robert Trent Jones and opened for play in 1992. Lakewood GC at Point Clear was acquired along with the Grand Hotel; its two golf courses were recently renovated and included in the Trail. Although not designed by Trent Jones, The Shoals and Ross Bridge were added to the Trail in more recent years.

Sony Open in Hawaii: played at Waialae Country Club near Honolulu, the Sony Open takes over the spotlight from The Sentry as the PGA Tour’s calendar-year opening event (Jan 15-18). The Sentry (not being played in 2026) was formerly known as the Tournament of Champions, with a field typically restricted to golfers who won a PGA Tour event in the previous calendar year.
Dubai Desert Classic: the DP World Tour’s first Rolex Series event of 2026, is contested for the 37th time (Jan 22-25). First won by Englishman Mark James in 1989, it now boasts a four-time winner, Rory McIlroy. Played on the Emirates Golf Club’s Majlis course, this once desert-surrounded course is the long-time flagship for Golf in Dubai.
Our visit last month included two rounds at Golf de Chantilly, one of France’s most prestigious clubs.
It offers two superb layouts: Le Vineuil, a five-star championship course with a rich history, and Longères, an excellent four-star course that provides a strong and enjoyable test.
The wider Paris region offers plenty more. Courses such as Fontainebleau, Golf de Saint-Germain, and several other top-rated layouts make this area one of Europe’s most rewarding golf destinations, offering a mix of woodland, heathland, and parkland designs.
The Dutch: "It's no' just a game", as they say in Scotland, and that's certainly true at The Dutch. With 5-star services throughout, a lavishly comfortable Loch Lomond-inspired clubhouse, and a superbly designed and presented golf course, one could not ask for more from this top-end private club.
Join us at The Dutch from August 21–24 for the Festival of Golf, featuring the HotelPlanner Tour. Experience four days of top-tier sport, live music, incredible food, and unexpected surprises. Explore the grounds, connect with others, embrace new challenges, and dive into an unforgettable celebration. Click here to buy tickets.
