Talking Stick (O’odham)
Talking Stick Golf Club (O’odham course; formerly North course): With its Scottish links styling, and an absence of perimeter-hugging real estate, Talking Stick's O’odham course offers something a bit different from the more typical golf and residential developments found in Scottsdale.
This thoroughly absorbing and wonderfully challenging Coore-Crenshaw layout is located on the flattish terrain of a Native-American reservation. The generous fairways extend to the cart paths, without thick and clinging rough to worry about. Small bushes, rather than trees, create classic linksy openess, but don't imagine that this will make things any less challenging.
Your shot-making requires accurate approach work to hit the smallish greens, which are usually strongly defended by plenty of deep bunkering. Out of bounds is a factor on some of the early holes. A real Scottsdale treat, and something a bit different from the norm.

Talking Stick is located on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Reservation. Two different meanings are ascribed to the name "talking stick". One is that a stick was used by the local Pima tribe to record important events, such as harvests, droughts, solar eclipses and festivals. The other is that a stick was passed around at tribal meetings to the person who wanted to speak.
Talking Stick formerly played host to the PGA Tour Qualifying School (in 1998 and 1999).
