Talking Stick Golf Club (Piipaash course)

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 1998

Talking Stick Golf Club (Piipaash course; formerly South course): Although the O’odham and Piipaash courses at Talking Stick may run alongside each other, its unlikely these Scottsdale siblings would be mistaken for twins! Both are located on the flattish terrain of an Indian reservation, but there the similarity ends.

The open, links-like styling of Talking Stick's O’odham course, is complemented by a slightly easier-going, resort course feel on the more parkland-styled Piipaash. Small trees create good definition to many holes, as you are steered along the flattish fairways to good size greens. Water occasionally makes its presence felt, more so on the back-nine.

Like the O’odham course, the absence of any housing around the layout creates a wonderfully natural setting, enhancing the wonderful mountain views seen from most parts of the course.

Did you know?

Talking Stick is located on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Reservation. Two different meanings are ascribed to the name "talking stick". One is that a stick was used by the local Pima tribe to record important events, such as harvests, droughts, solar eclipses and festivals. The other is that a stick was passed around at tribal meetings to the person who wanted to speak.

Talking Stick formerly played host to the PGA Tour Qualifying School (in 1998 and 1999).
