Badlands
Badlands Golf Club: GOLF COURSE PERMANENTLY CLOSED IN 2016, pending a residential development.
[Original Where2Golf description]: Living up to its name (see Did You Know section below) the 27-hole Badlands course plays through a rugged and wonderfully varied landscape of desert features and river wash erosion. Stunning mountain views and several mansion-sized properties are also much in evidence, although the housing is always set well back from the course.
The Diablo, Desparado and Outlaw nines provide a testing and immensely scenic desert layout, featuring old railroad flatcars as bridges, decorative rows of caliche boulders and not overly wide fairways framed by yuccas, mesquite and other desert vegetation. While threading your ball through the pleasantly undulating desert terrain you will also need to avoid many fairway-crossing river wash areas, good quality bunkering and, on the Desparado and Outlaw nines, an occasional water hazard or two.
If you think this layout occasionally resembles target golf at its toughest, few would argue with you. While your partners try to find the right line on the large, fast and at times mesmerically undulating greens, you can soak up breathtaking views onto surrounding mountains, and in the opposite direction, the Las Vegas skyline. The two original nines, the Diablo and Desparado fit together the best, with the newer and flatter Outlaw-nine providing a slightly easier-going but no less enjoyable challenge.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends.

Excellent
In geographical terms, "badlands" are areas of arid terrain where the forces of wind and water have eroded softer rocks and clay-rich soils. The extensive erosion creates canyons, ravines, gullies, hoodoos (tall thin spires of rock) and other such geological formations. Usually difficult to cross on foot, badlands can often have spectacular colour displays with rock formations of dark blue and black, contrasting with bright clays and reds. The Big Muddy Badlands in Canada gained notoriety as a hideout for outlaws.
