Oak Quarry, CA
Oak Quarry Golf Club: Tucked away in the picturesque folds of the Jurupa hills, Oak Quarry combines dramatic scenery with an inspired layout. The breathtaking valley and mountain panoramas of the front nine, especially on the opening four or five holes, are perhaps eclipsed by the stunning use of the former quarry workings on the back-nine.
With many spectacular elevation changes and holes like the par-4 6th (Quarry's Edge) and par-4 9th (Quartz Corner) skirting along the top of the quarry workings, your shot-making (with golf club and camera) will be busily employed. Generally good-width fairways support the playability of the course, but take care at the shorter par-4s, where expansive bunkering and tighter fairways put the accent on accuracy rather than length.
The signature par-3 14th is a world class golf hole. Played across the water-filled centre of the quarry to a bunker-surrounded, postage-stamp green below, the entire hole is stunningly framed by the towering cliffs of the quarried hillside. The par-4 15th is also a stunner, with its tee-boxes set alongside a white-walled cliff, where swallows quickly come and go from their various nesting sites.
The wonderfully rugged mountain scenery, dramatic layout and golfing challenge, backed-up by excellent green-keeping and an absence of housing around the course, ensure the fame of Jensen's quarry lives on in the gem that is Oak Quarry Golf Club.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends.
Must book in advance.
Non-metal spike facility. Golf carts compulsory; carts are fitted with GPS.

Originally called Landmark Golf Club at Oak Quarry, the course is laid out in the Jurupa hills, and winds through the white-faced, jagged terrain of Jensen Quarry. In its operating heyday, between the early 1900s and late 1970s, this renowned quarry supplied limestone, marble and 88 various minerals for the development and construction of roads, large buildings and private residences in the Los Angeles area.
