Siena
Siena Golf Club is home to a course that has much in common with its sister course, Arroyo at Red Rock, located just three miles to the north. This scenic duo are located amongst a clutch of excellent courses located in the western outskirts of Las Vegas, each enjoying wonderful views onto Red Rock Canyon and the Spring Mountains. Like its sibling, Siena also roams through part of Summerlin's residential community, never quite getting into wild, open desert, but with a usually generous band of desert terrain flanking the holes, before the single-storey housing appears. An almost garden-like feel is created around the tee-boxes, where an abundance of fascinating desert plants and cactus flourish. Although never overly dramatic in terms of elevation changes, the good-width fairways contain pleasant undulations and are home to a host of stylish, strategically placed and often high-lipped bunkering. On the few occasions when water hazards are in play, the requirement for accuracy and good course management dramatically increases. At the excellent par-3 5th, water protects the green on three-sides, while a ribbon of water runs the full length of the par-4 9th. Good-sized ponds also beg questions at the par-4 12th and par-5 15th. On the slightly more elevated closing stretch, views of the mountains on one side are complemented by panoramas to the Las Vegas Strip on the other. The heavily bunkered par-3 17th and excellent par-4 18th giving the layout a wonderfully scenic finish.
