Located in the foothills above Stanford University, this private facility can be accessed by guests staying at the nearby Rosewood Sand Hill resort. Stanford University (also known locally as "The Farm") was founded in 1885 by Leland and Jane Stanford. Leland was a tycoon, industrialist and politician who became the Governor of California and a US Senator.
Stanford's campus is one of the largest in the US, and its undergraduate programme one of the most selective. It is often cited as one of the world's most prestigious universities. The nickname of the university's sports teams is the "Cardinal" (singular); the various teams play in cardinal red.
