Caledonia
Caledonia Golf & Fish Club is home to the first solo design of the late, great golf course architect Mike Strantz. The course nestles in South Carolina’s charming Low Country, and sits atop an historic rice plantation alongside the wetlands of the Waccamaw River.
Stranz's wonderfully crafted layout is replete with tidal marshes, freshwater creeks and giant live oaks. This tree-lined parkland layout provides a wonderful test for your all-round game, with many attractive, skilfully crafted and challenging holes to enjoy. A must play if you are in the Myrtle Beach area.
Pick of the holes: the picturesque par-4 18th borders the Plantation’s old rice field, demanding a precise tee shot that sets up a difficult second. Getting par or better requires a forced carry over water onto a green at the foot of the clubhouse. Don't be surprised if onlookers in rocking chairs, are betting on your success or otherwise in hitting this testing two-tier green.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends.
Must book in advance.
Walking permitted.

Caledonia Golf & Fish Club owes its name to Dr. Robert Nesbit, a Scotsman who bestowed upon his estate the name the Romans gave to his homeland, “Caledonia.” It is not known whether Nesbit acquired the property through his marriage in 1797 to Elizabeth Pawley or by purchase.
The Caledonia estate, which was worked as a rice plantation, remained in the Nesbit family until 1940. Records indicate that, at its peak in the mid-1800s, Caledonia’s production of rice was more than 700,000 pounds per annum, well above average compared to other plantations in the area.
