Hilton Head National Golf Club

4-PLUS: Must play course - excellent standard; worthy of 4½ stars.

Est. 1989

Hilton Head National Golf Club: originally a 27-hole layout involving the National, Weed and Player nines, the layout was trimmed to 18 holes in 2009. Most of the holes on the former Player-nine made way for an RV resort. The layout now comprises a front-nine designed by Bobby Weed (formerly the Weed-nine), and a back-nine designed by Gary Player (formerly called the National-nine).

The course sits amongst quiet woodland, free of any real estate lining its tree-lined fairways. In this natural setting of tall pine trees and quiet lagoons, pleasantly undulating fairways deliver you from nicely elevated tees to the many elevated greens. With a few water holes in the mix, as well as excellent maintenance standards throughout, this is one of Hilton's Heads "special" courses according to many local golfers.

The closing par-4 18th brings you to a large hour-glass green, which previously formed a double-green with the now retired closing hole of the former Player-nine. The shorter par-4 9th (the closing hole on the Weed-nine) is also a belter.
