Talamore Golf Resort

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 1991

Talamore Golf Resort: Talamore is one of the classic golf courses of Pinehurst. Its two nine-hole loops contain many attractive golf holes, laid out in a quiet and natural setting where pine trees provide the main backdrop to Rees Jones' excellent design.

From start to finish the holes pleasantly meander their way through much unspoilt pine forest, with real estate largely kept a reasonable distance behind the holes and much less evident on the back-nine.

Lining the usually good-width fairways is an array of attractive moguls (earthmounding), copious and at times visually intimidating bunkering and mature pines. Only at the par-4 18th will water come into play, requiring your tee shot to carry a good-sized pond. But don't think the absence of water makes this course any less challenging - this is an excellent layout, which will test both your shot-making abilities and course management.

The well-paced and sometimes elevated greens are not overly large (with a few exceptions) but are excellent surfaces to putt on, and home to many slopes and borrows. Since opening in 1991, Talamore's pleasantly wooded charms, gentle undulations and handsome design has made it a popular venue for local and visiting golfers alike.

Did you know?

Talamore is a Gaelic word meaning "land of great value", and the Talamore Golf Resort is well positioned to provide that, with its sister course, Mid South, and all the other Pinehurst golf courses within close proximity. Uniquely in this part of the world (and perhaps the northern hemisphere), you can hire the services of a llama to caddie your clubs around the course. If, like most players, you don't opt for this service, you can at least take a look at these natives of South America alongside the 14th tee.
