From the centre of Charleston follow I-26 North, direction Columbia, for approximately 25 miles. Leave I-26 at exit 194 (Jedburg) and follow the 58, direction Jedburg. After 2.2 miles go straight across Hwy 78 at traffic lights, and into Mallard Road. After 1.2 miles turn left into Orangeburg Road (SC-S-18-22). After 1.3 miles turn left into Butternut Road (SC-S-18-58). After o.6 miles turn left into Congressional Blvd. Follow road to golf clubhouse.
Pine Forest, SC
The Club at Pine Forest comprises two very good out-and-back nine-hole loops. As the name implies, tall, mature pine trees line the way on most holes. In keeping with traditional links golf course design, the holes coming back are usually parallel to (but well-spaced from) those heading out. Between them is a liberal sprinkling of majestic pines and a pine straw carpet beneath.
The pleasantly undulating fairways tend to get distinctly mogully as you approach the often elevated greens. The greens themselves are typically fast and undulating, several having at least two or sometimes three tiers - prepare to have your putting skills thoroughly tested.
With real estate kept a good distance from the course, alongside the "pairs of holes", the layout here retains a pleasantly natural feel, with one excellent and picturesque hole following another. Generally good-width fairways will permit reasonably free use of the big timber in your bag, but beware the many small water-hazards; some are well within driving distance, others lend additional protection around several greens.
With its excellent standard of upkeep and pleasantly rolling contours (created from essentially flat terrain), Pine Forest is a thoroughly enjoyable course. It's also one that will fully test your game, especially your short game, and most especially your putting.
Pick of the holes: although the course boasts several excellent "signature" holes, the par-4 12th, dubbed “Little Augusta” is usually top of most golfers' lists. The green complex bears an uncanny resemblance to the infamous par-3 12th hole at Augusta National.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends when a limited number of tee-times are available.

The current golf course was built on the grounds of Pine Forest Inn’s Hunt Club. The Pine Forest Inn was one of the first resorts in the United States dating back to 1891. The Inn had a golf course as early as 1891 making it one of the oldest courses in the country.
Situated on a pine-forested ridge, the nearby town of Summerville was first inhabited in the late 1700's as Charlestonians and other inhabitants of the Lowcountry sought respite from the summer heat, mosquitoes and disease.
From May to September plantation families along the nearby Ashley River and other coastal areas, headed for higher elevation to live temporarily in the forest colony, soon dubbed Summerville.
