Wild Dunes Resort (Links course)

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 1980

Wild Dunes Resort (Links course): The signature Links Course here at Wild Dunes, gets underway in a pleasantly open environment, where you'll find the par-5 1st and 14th holes, and the returning par-4 9th, all lightly fringed with palms and occasional oaks. It's certainly a more forgiving start than offered by its shorter and tighter companion, the Harbor course.

Although the Links course tightens-up from time to time, as at the excellent short par-4 10th and 11th holes, the layout also contains more open sections, especially on the closing stretch where fabulous marshland and ocean views await. The mighty Atlantic is never far away from the course, but you'll need to wait until the 17th and 18th to see it and get right alongside the beach. The 17th tee also provides wonderful views of Dewees Inlet, which cuts inland from the ocean.

Throughout your journey around the Links course you'll enjoy many memorable and individually crafted holes. Some are undulating, others less so, some lined (not too closely) by large seaside homes, or by marshland, or by rugged looking dunes. On several sections the generally good-width, gently undulating fairways are flanked by a variety of trees and bushes.

Although not overly large, the greens are home to many slopes and borrows. One of the smallest greens comes at the short par-3 16th, played alongside impressive marshland. Occasional pot bunkers rather than elaborately crafted traps is all that is required on this ever-popular links-style course.
