St Louis CC
St Louis Country Club: the father of American golf course architecture, Charles Blair Macdonald, had a relatively tight piece of ground to work with when he designed this layout in 1914. That didn't stop the great man from incorporating many of his favourite hole designs into the layout.
Back-to-back par-3s come at the 2nd and 3rd holes; there's a "Redan" par-3 at 16, and a closing par-4 that requires a blind approach to the final green ... an interpretation of the 17th (Alps) at Prestwick in Scotland. St Louis CC is a private club, exclusively for the use of members and their invited guests.
Private club - guests may only play if hosted by a member.
St Louis Country Club has staged many top level events over the years. It was here that Deane Beman, long-time commissioner of the PGA Tour, won the first of his two US Amateur Championship titles. Other notable events held here include the US Open (1947), US Amateur (1921), US Women's Amateur (1925 and 1972), and the Curtis Cup (2014) (see our Tournaments section >by Venue >St Louis CC).
Missouri's No.1 course (Golf Digest, 2025/26).

Presidents Cup: Geoff Ogilvy’s International Team take on Brandt Snedeker’s USA Team at the revered Medinah Country Club, near Chicago. The Internationals are trying to halt a run of 11 consecutive American wins. (Sept 24-27).
French Open: Continental Europe’s oldest national championship, dating from 1906, is once again staged on the Albatros Course at Le Golf National, near Paris. Defending champion is America’s Michael Kim. (Sept 24-27).
Our visit last month included two rounds at Golf de Chantilly, one of France’s most prestigious clubs.
It offers two superb layouts: Le Vineuil, a five-star championship course with a rich history, and Longères, an excellent four-star course that provides a strong and enjoyable test.
The wider Paris region offers plenty more. Courses such as Fontainebleau, Golf de Saint-Germain, and several other top-rated layouts make this area one of Europe’s most rewarding golf destinations, offering a mix of woodland, heathland, and parkland designs.
The Dutch: "It's no' just a game", as they say in Scotland, and that's certainly true at The Dutch. With 5-star services throughout, a lavishly comfortable Loch Lomond-inspired clubhouse, and a superbly designed and presented golf course, one could not ask for more from this top-end private club.
