Disney's Lake Buena Vista Golf Course

3-PLUS: Good course - several memorable features; worthy of 3½ stars.

Est. 1972

Disney's Lake Buena Vista Golf Course: The ever-popular Lake Buena Vista golf course is located just behind the bustling Disney Springs area of the Disney World Resort. (Disney Springs, formerly known as Downtown Disney, is a bustling marketplace of shops, restaurants and entertainment venues).

The pleasant resort-style "LBV" course comprises two nine-loops, the first of which winds its way through the quaint pastel-coloured villas and condos of "Old Key West". The back-nine exudes a more natural feel as you journey through a woodland of pines and palmettos. Water is never too far away throughout your round, with canals and small lakes providing a frequent threat. That watery threat is never greater than at the island-green par-3 7th and par-3 16th, where a scenic canal needs to be crossed in front of the tee.

In its earlier days, the course tested the best tournament pros in the PGA Tour's Walt Disney Classic, while taking them on a journey through a little slice of Disney. The LBV layout still presents an excellent test for golfers of all levels, with perhaps a tighter feel than Disney World's other two 18-hole courses (Palm and Magnolia).

Traigh Golf Course (pronounced "try", and meaning "beach" in Gaelic): You'll find this nine-hole seaside gem on the scenic coast road (as opposed to the more inland and quicker A830) between Arisaig and Morar. Although not on the well-beaten path of Scotland's "trophy" courses, if you are passing through this area, it's a must play.
