Reunion Resort & Golf Club (Palmer course)

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 2004

Reunion Resort (Arnold Palmer course; formerly the Legacy course by Arnold Palmer): The Arnold Palmer designed Legacy course is one of three excellent layouts at the Reunion Resort. Sharing its clubhouse with the Watson course (alongside the Reunion Grande hotel), this stylish golf course contains many roller-coaster holes with sizable elevation changes ... up to 50 feet in places, which creates something different from the flatter Florida norm.

Contrasting with the layout's predominantly open terrain, the first few holes individually weave their way through a mix of wooded swamp on one side, and discreetly distanced resort villas on the other. The par-5 3rd, with sentry-like oaks and a river of sand "flowing" along the leftside, is tighter than most holes you'll encounter.

A large "bowl" of open parkland, skirted briefly by the par-4 1st, and more fully introduced by the wonderful risk-reward par-4 7th, contains the closing three holes on both nines. The 7th is played from a significantly elevated tee across a narrowing in a good size-lake; deep greenside traps await any wayward "go for it" attempts at the green. Strategically located bunkers and huge waste areas continually threaten elsewhere in the "bowl".

Holes 11 thru' 15, occupying a separate but equally open setting, are arranged around a scenic, marshy lake. Here you'll find the rock-fronted par-3 14th, picturesquely surrounded on three sides by wetland. A wonderfully testing carry over a corner of the lake is required at the par-5 15th. Back in the "bowl", at the gently uphill par-4 18th, a mass of stylish bunkering and rocky outcrops closes out the round on this top-quality Palmer design.
