Streamsong Resort (Blue course)

4-PLUS: Must play course - excellent standard; worthy of 4½ stars.

Est. 2012

Streamsong Resort (Blue course): Since 2010, headline grabbing new golf course developments have been something of a rarity. Streamsong bucks that trend. With two fabulous "sandbelt" courses laid out on a former phosphate strip mine, Streamsong has commanded front-page attention since the project was first conceived. And further courses at the resort are a distinct possibility!

The Tom Doak designed Blue course is reputedly the easier going of the two championship layouts at Streamsong. However, the Blue makes up for its wider fairways and less water in play, with one or two more blind shots than on the Red, and larger and more wildly undulating greens. The two courses are about equal on the amount of undulation and elevation change and voracity of the huge fairway-lining bunkering. On occasions both courses leave the towering dunes, taking you through grassy plains and a more savanna-style environment.

The par-3 7th is most people's favourite hole on the Blue, and the most photographed on the property. Himlayan dunes surround the back and sides of the green, while water must be crossed 'twixt tee and green. This delightful one-shotter is played in a picturesquely secluded area between the sand dunes.

In this less travelled part of the Sunshine state, a golf resort has emerged to rank with the likes of other "modern greats" such as Bandon Dunes, Whistling Straits, Canada's Cabot Links and Australia's Barnbougle Dunes. Streamsong may not be oceanside or lakeside, as are the others. But the entire resort is surrounded by quiet rural countryside, without busy roads or real estate anywhere in sight, which is not always the case on other top Florida courses!

Stay&Play: luxury onsite accommodation is available at Streamsong Resort in the Lodge and Clubhouse (see Where2Stay section below).

Did you know?

The Streamsong Resort was developed by the long-time owners of the land, The Mosaic Company, the largest U.S. producer of potash and phosphate fertiliser. The golf courses are built on the site of a former Mosaic phosphate strip mine. | The course names (Red and Blue) at Streamsong were apparently chosen based on the colour of the ink used by the designers when drawing the respective course routings on the same map.

Published ranking

2019/20 Golf Digest rating: 138th best course and 24th best public course in the USA; 7th best course in Florida.

Marco Simone Golf & Country Club: With a clubhouse that might befit a Roman Emperor, and a golf course to match, you can be sure of a memorable outing at Rome's most talked about golf facility.

Jim Fazio's original layout was much changed to create a modern Ryder Cup course ... now one of the Eternal City's (and Italy's) most revered.

Golf Son Gual

Golf Son Gual is home to a course frequently rated the No.1 layout on the holiday island of Mallorca. Opening for play in 2007, this Thomas Himmel design combines the openness of a links-style layout with the stylish bunkering and not infrequent water hazards more typically associated with parkland courses.

Son Gual is located just a few kilometres from Palma (Mallorca). Palma's Old City shows clear influences from the city's Arab past.
