Jerry Matthews, a Michiganian (or Michigander as some prefer), designed Elk Ridge in 1990. Matthews is a former President of the American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA), the oldest professional organization of golf course designers in America. His introduction to the golf design industry began when he was 12 years old, working for this father on the maintenance crew at Green Ridge Country Club. He teamed up with his father in 1960 to form the golf course design firm of W. Bruce Matthews & Son, now Jerry Matthews Natural Course Design.
