4-PLUS: Must play course - excellent standard; worthy of 4½ stars.

Est. 1929

Located just to the south of Akron in Ohio, Firestone Country Club is generally recognised as one of Ohio's top golfing venues, with its three well-crafted and challenging championship courses, the North, South, and Fazio (formerly West course).

The best known of Firestone's trio is the South course, host to many top level tournaments, including US PGA and US Senior PGA Championships, as well as World Golf Championship (WGC) events. The historic South course is Firestone’s original course.

Narrow, tree-lined fairways and immaculate conditioning defines the South course. Deep fairway bunkers with high lips may force sideways chip outs, while constant elevation changes, healthy length rough, and severe false fronted greens will keep you on your toes. The fabulous greens are firm and fast, and tough to read.

Firestone's North course, also designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr, opened in 1969. It is noted for the scenic beauty of its lakes and streams. The Fazio (formerly West) course, a links-style layout designed by Tom Fazio in 2001, is built around the perimeter of the South course and is home to the Ohio Senior Open.

Today, the entire community is considered a historic landmark along with its Firestone Country Club, Firestone Stadium and Harvey S. Firestone Memorial Park.

Lottie Woad: 21-year-old Woad burst onto the professional scene in July, with wins in the Women’s Irish Open (as an amateur) and three weeks later in the Women’s Scottish Open (as a professional). She nearly picked-up a major championship, placing third in The Evian in the same month.

Pádraig Harrington: the ever-likeable Irishman added the (British) Senior Open Championship title to his stellar array of tournament successes. His win came on Sunningdale’s spectacular Old Course. Harrington had already bagged the U.S. Senior Open title in June this year.
