Annandale Golf Club

Private: A course for members and their invited guests only.

Est. 1981

Annandale Golf Club is one of Mississippi's finest golf layouts and often the highest-rated private course of any in the Magnolia state. If you are fortunate enough to play here, you'll find Annandale's excellent quality tree-lined layout throws down a wonderful parkland golfing challenge.

The 18-hole Jack Nicklaus design occupies pleasantly rolling terrain, and features bentgrass greens, many of them elevated. The fairways are edged with pampas grass.

Two broad lakes and a few smaller ponds ensures water threatens on several holes. Around the greens and along the fairways the course is laced with abundant stylish bunkering, some of it reminiscent of the links courses of Britain and Ireland.

Limited access: this private course is generally playable only by members and their invited guests.

Annandale Golf Club is located on the site of the former Annandale Plantation. The name Annandale was brought to Mississippi in 1820 by John T. Johnstone of North Carolina, a great-nephew of the Earl of Annandale of Dumfriesshire, Scotland.

In the forest of Madison County, he established an extensive Plantation. between 1857 and 1859, Johnstone built a forty-room three-story Italian Renaissance-style mansion, in which ttheir descendants lived in until it burned down in 1924.

Tournaments

Women’s (British) Open: the last women’s major championship of the season is hosted by Royal Porthcawl GC. It’s the first time this fabulous seaside links course has hosted the event (July 31-Aug 3).

Walker Cup: the 50th playing of this prestigious men’s amateur event sees the GB&I go head-to-head against the defending USA team at Cypress Point Club, California (Sept 6-7). After that, all eyes turn to Bethpage State Park on Long Island, NY, where the American and defending European professional teams engage in the 45th Ryder Cup (Sept 27-29).

Who's Who

Lottie Woad: 21-year-old Woad burst onto the professional scene in July, with wins in the Women’s Irish Open (as an amateur) and three weeks later in the Women’s Scottish Open (as a professional). She nearly picked-up a major championship, placing third in The Evian in the same month.

Pádraig Harrington: the ever-likeable Irishman added the (British) Senior Open Championship title to his stellar array of tournament successes. His win came on Sunningdale’s spectacular Old Course. Harrington had already bagged the U.S. Senior Open title in June this year.
