Bandon Dunes (Dunes)
Bandon Dunes Golf Resort (Bandon Dunes course): As the oldest layout in the Bandon Dunes championship quartet, the Bandon Dunes course blazed the trail for those that came after, both here and around the world. Designed by Scotsman David McLay-Kidd, the course is perched on a bluff high above the Pacific Ocean. The layout unfolds along pristine native dunes where expansive ocean views are revealed on nearly every hole.
The Bandon Dunes course is largely sculpted by the gently rolling dunes, and routed through an open almost treeless environment of indigenous vegetation. Beyond breathtaking scenery lies the game of golf as it has been played for generations. Winds are ever-present, creating a different experience each time you play.
Laid out in two nine-hole loops, open pleasantly undulating terrain and fescued mounds dominate the scene. Threatening wayward shots is a myriad of rugged crater-like bunkering and plenty of mischievous pot bunkers. Like its siblings, there are few water hazards, but plenty of firm fast playing surfaces, not least in and around the greens. From the tee you look out to reassuringly wide (sometimes very wide) landing areas.
Every golfer will develop his or her personal favourites amongst this stunning collection of golf holes. Hard to beat the six ocean-front holes (three on the front-nine, three on the back) that sit directly on top of the bluff. Just behind them are equally captivating and challenging holes. The stretch from the par-4 4th to the par-3 6th is majestic. Or perhaps you'll savour the closing stretch, starting at the intimidating long par-3 15th and stunningly scenic short par-4 16th. The views on this closing stretch are among the best from any golf course .... anywhere.
At America's favourite links golf resort, playing the original Bandon Dunes layout is a must. In our opinion it's the Bandon layout that gets closest to the classic links courses of Britain and Ireland .... it also offers the best of the resort's oceanside scenery and coastal views.

Excellent - as good as they get.
Mike Keiser, co-founder of greeting card giant Recycled Paper Greetings, fell in love with the links golf courses of the British Isles. He decided these coastal duneland courses, much visited by North American golfers, needed to be brought much closer to home. And so Bandon Dunes was created - an out of the way golfer's paradise, built alongside the Pacific Ocean, amongst impressive Oregon dunes.
