Whispering Pines, TX
The private Whispering Pines Golf Club is home to one of the top-rated and finest championship golf courses in Texas. Set on the shoreline of Lake Livingston and a tributary river, Whispering Pines magnificently weaves its way through 450 acres of pine and hardwood forest.
With many wonderfully scenic lakeside, riverside and woodland holes, this excellent parkland layout is frequently rated the best in the Lone Star State. Immaculate conditioning and superb bunkering are two hallmarks of this blissfully natural and quietly located layout. The course's plentiful challenges, and its alluring aesthetics, are reinforced by large sandy waste areas and more than a few threatening ponds.
Limited access: this private course is generally playable only by members and their invited guests.
Private club; visitors/guests may only play if hosted by a member.
Excellent (including a double-ended driving range).
Lake Livingston, on the banks of which Whispering Pines sits, was created in the late-1960s, following the building of the Livingston Dam across the Trinity River. The lake now serves as a major water reservoir that feeds the Houston-Galveston area.
A mile from Whispering Pines is Camp Olympia, a private, overnight Texas summer camp, which offers one-, two- and three-week summer camp sessions for 6 to 16-year-olds.
Texas's No.1 course (Golf Digest, 2023/24).
USA's 51st best course (Golf Digest, 2023).
The Masters: The 88th Masters Tournament at Augusta National sees LIV golfer Jon Rahm defend his title against the world’s best. Pressing hard will be world No.1 and 2022 champion Scottie Scheffler and world No.2 Rory McIlroy (April 11-14).
Chevron Championship: the women’s major championship season gets underway for the second year at its new Carlton Woods home outside Houston, Texas. World No.2 Lilia Vu defends (April 18-21).
Nelly Korda: records a perfect start to 2024 with four wins out of her last four appearances on the LPGA Tour, a feat last achieved by Lorena Ochoa in 2008. Korda's win at the T-Mobile Match Play brought up her 12th LPGA Tour victory.
Scottie Scheffler: narrowly missed out on matching Nelly Korda’s three-in-three, when he placed second at the Houston Open. This followed back-to-back wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players. Like Korda, he remains comfortably ahead in the official world golf rankings.
Marco Simone Golf & Country Club: With a clubhouse that might befit a Roman Emperor, and a golf course to match, you can be sure of a memorable outing at Rome's most talked about golf facility.
Jim Fazio's original layout was much changed to create a modern Ryder Cup course ... now one of the Eternal City's (and Italy's) most revered.
