Where2Golf says:

Woking Golf Club: For well over 100 years golfers have enjoyed the quiet and natural splendour of Woking Golf Club. After your first visit it's easy to understand why. Located on the edge of a high-end 'stockbroker belt' suburb known as Hook Heath, only the occasional swish of passing trains (on a few front nine holes) breaks the tranquility of Woking's 'wooded heathland' setting.

As with many neighbouring Surrey/Berkshire heathland courses, the secret to a good score here lies not in power-hitting, but the need for accuracy from the tee and a deft touch around Woking's mercurially sloping greens. Mastering these seriously undulating putting surfaces, rather than booming out big drives will be a key factor in your round.

With the back-to-back 14th and 15th holes providing the only par-5s in the layout, Woking may feel a little on the short side, not least when you consider the opening and closing par-4s are both drivable for long hitters. But on other holes there are relatively long carries over the heather, not least from the wonderfully elevated back-tee of the signature par-4 6th. With plenty of heather and some gorse awaiting stray drives, this enchanting wooded-heathland golf course always lays down a worthy golfing challenge.

As you look out from the distinctive and charming clubhouse, with its terrace hard against the par-5 14th green, Woking's essential ingredients are clear to see: heather-trimmed fairways that lead you to wickedly undulating greens, all set against a natural backdrop of majestic Scots pines.
