The Boulders Resort (North course)

4+ (4 gold): one of our top-rated 4-star courses, worthy of 4½ stars.

Where2Golf says:

The Boulders Resort (North course): The Boulders Resort is home to two top-quality championship golf courses, both designed by Jay Morrish. Both are also excellent examples of classic desert-style Arizona golf, each one a delight to play.

The South course may take most of the top accolades, but the marginally older North course also provides one of Scottsdale's most enjoyable golf outing. In a wonderfully natural desert environment, it's not just the rock formations that create plenty of visual interest. The pleasantly rolling layout, abundance and variety of desert foliage, and quality of design all add to a great experience on Boulders North.

The fairways are possibly more forgiving than on the South, but there are still plenty of wash-areas to be carried from tee-to-green, and a few water hazards to be crossed, most notably at the excellent par-3 14th. As the layout meanders through the Boulders community you will enjoy many scenic views onto Black Mountain, with any housing kept well back from the course.

Did you know?

All around you at Boulders is the natural open terrain of the Sonoran Desert. While hunting in the desert brush for a wayward shot, golfers may catch a glimpse of a bobcat, rabbits, coyotes, desert quail, lizards or a javelina ("skunk pig"). Some of the boulder formations you'll see during your round at The Boulders pre-date the golf course by a mere 12 million years.
