Brookwater
Brookwater Golf & Country Club is home to a top-rated championship golf course, one of the best in the greater Brisbane area. The excellent tree-lined parkland layout contains a wealth of wonderfully crafted, memorable and challenging holes. Quietly tucked away in its woodland home, with high-end housing beyond a few sections of the perimeter, this pleasantly undulating Greg Norman design will challenge all facets of your game.
There's plenty of elevation change accompanying Brookwater's good-width fairways, which carve their way through the rocky, dry ruggedness of the surrounding bushland and eucalyptus forest. Vigorously protecting the mercurially sloping greens, an abundant array of large, deep bunkers exude a rustic, rough-edged look. Occasional water hazards also play their part, fronting some greens as at the short par-4 6th.
Amongst Brookwater's collection of well-crafted holes, you'll enjoy a wonderful quartet of not overly long par-3s, most played from dramatically elevated tees. The plunging, downhill par-5 13th is one of the layout's best holes, gently dog-legging its way through an attractive avenue of towering trees.
On a few stretches, and more so at the start of the back-nine loop, housing comes into view behind the tree-line, slightly taking the edge off the dramatic impact that characterises most of the course. Although further housing development is planned, at this time the layout retains a predominantly natural woodland feel. A course that's worth going out of your way to play.

Brookwater is located on the outer edge of the Brisbane metropolitan area, the capital and most populous city in the Australian state of Queensland. Brisbane takes its name from Sir Thomas Brisbane, who was born at Brisbane House (which no longer exists) in Noddsdale, Largs, Scotland. He was a senior British Army officer, appointed as Governor of New South Wales (1821-25) by the Duke of Wellington.

Sony Open in Hawaii: played at Waialae Country Club near Honolulu, the Sony Open takes over the spotlight from The Sentry as the PGA Tour’s calendar-year opening event (Jan 15-18). The Sentry (not being played in 2026) was formerly known as the Tournament of Champions, with a field typically restricted to golfers who won a PGA Tour event in the previous calendar year.
Dubai Desert Classic: the DP World Tour’s first Rolex Series event of 2026, is contested for the 37th time (Jan 22-25). First won by Englishman Mark James in 1989, it now boasts a four-time winner, Rory McIlroy. Played on the Emirates Golf Club’s Majlis course, this once desert-surrounded course is the long-time flagship for Golf in Dubai.
Our visit last month included two rounds at Golf de Chantilly, one of France’s most prestigious clubs.
It offers two superb layouts: Le Vineuil, a five-star championship course with a rich history, and Longères, an excellent four-star course that provides a strong and enjoyable test.
The wider Paris region offers plenty more. Courses such as Fontainebleau, Golf de Saint-Germain, and several other top-rated layouts make this area one of Europe’s most rewarding golf destinations, offering a mix of woodland, heathland, and parkland designs.
The Dutch: "It's no' just a game", as they say in Scotland, and that's certainly true at The Dutch. With 5-star services throughout, a lavishly comfortable Loch Lomond-inspired clubhouse, and a superbly designed and presented golf course, one could not ask for more from this top-end private club.
Join us at The Dutch from August 21–24 for the Festival of Golf, featuring the HotelPlanner Tour. Experience four days of top-tier sport, live music, incredible food, and unexpected surprises.
