Millicent
Millicent Golf Club: you won't get better value golf or a more attractive and quieter woodland course than here at Millicent Golf Club. This is one of the lesser known gems of Australian golf. Wonderfully sculpted from a natural forest of eucalyptus and many other tree varieties - as natural and quiet as any woodland course in Australia.
Millicent's out-of-town and off-the-beaten track location, combined with a lack of serious financing, does translate into less than perfect maintenance standards, but don't let that deter you for one minute. If you accept an occasionally rustic look, then no course will deliver more for such a modest green fee.
The strength of the layout rests on its skilfully crafted straightaway and doglegging holes, which weave their way through the forest in two nine hole loops. Pleasantly undulating terrain gives excellent character to the tree-lined holes. The good-width, undulating fairways, many played to from elevated teeing positions, lead you toward small, round, subtly sloping greens; greens that the great Harry Colt would be proud of.
A lack of water hazards and lightish bunkering reduces the normal array of challenges one might expect to face. Dazzling red/blue parrots, kookaburra's and many other bird varieties provide a wonderful chorus, further enhancing this sublimely natural environment.
If a rich benefactor could introduce improved bunkering and up the maintenance resources, Millicent would potentially rocket into Australia's Top 20 courses. As it is, the dedicated members do a great job in ensuring a welcoming and rewarding golfing experience.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends.
