Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club (Lake course): About an hour's drive from the cities of Albury and Wangaratta, Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club (formerly Yarrawonga & Border GC) sits on the north bank of the Murray River, just inside New South Wales. The town of Yarrawonga is located on the opposite bank in the state of Victoria.
Occupying a quiet, housing-free, natural setting, the golf club is home to two excellent Peter Thomson designed championship layouts, as well as a nine-hole executive course. Although slightly less tree-lined and not quite as tight a test as its companion, the Lake course stands good comparison with the more highly rated Murray course.
Good-width fairways lead you to relatively large greens, often defended by cavernous, elliptical bunkers, and on a couple of occasions by ponds. On the layout's more open back-nine, staying out of the sand traps will require some adept course management and good shot-making.
There is a little more undulation on this course than on the Murray, and also the opportunity to catch glimpses of Lake Mulwala, home to a former forest, and now a mass of tree trunks standing eerily above the water line. If you are visiting Yarrawonga, ensure you allow time to play this very good parkland course in addition to the more renowned Murray layout.

The resort facilities at Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club include accommodation, a swimming pool, a bistro, gaming machines, bowls and croquet lawns.
The Lake course (and the resort) takes its name from nearby Lake Mulwala, which was created in 1939 when a dam was built across the Murray River between Yarrawonga and Mulwala. The lake provides irrigation water for the surrounding district.
