Where2Golf says:

Golf de Rigenée: They say don't always judge a book by its cover, and certainly don't judge this engaging and very natural golf course by its opening hole. This short par-4, quite unrepresentative of the rest of the course, is something of a "compromise" that simply serves to connect you to the rest of the course. It may also get you off to a rocky start, with its green "obscured" by a large tree, and a large bunker and water ditch awaiting any approaches hit either short or long.

Thankfully, after its "characterful" opener, things settle down at Rigenée into a well-designed, open and undulating golf course, with many attractive features. The routing takes you on an out-and-back journey through attractive and open rural countryside, with a constant back-drop of pleasant arable fields.

The well-maintained, good-width fairways are lightly tree-lined in parts. Thicker bushes also put in threatening appearances from time to time. You'll definitely drop a shot or two if you stray into this denser vegetation, or go out-of-bounds ... a possibility at several holes. On a few holes water also comes dangerously into play, not least at two of the four excellent par-3s. Although not accompanied by water, a gently uphill well-bunkered par-3 closes out the round, fittingly directly in front of the clubhouse terrace.

Maintenance standards are generally very good at Rigenée, not least on the good-sized greens, which usually run fast and true. In this splendidly quiet and open rural landscape, Reginée is a course that provides a good test for your overall game. Off the back-tees with the wind blowing, the severity of that test becomes just a bit tougher.

Did you know?

Rigenée is the home club of former Ladies European Tour professional and Solheim Cup player Florence Descampe, who recorded six wins on the Ladies European Tour and one LPGA Tour victory. The Club was the inspiration and creation of her parents, Caroline and Emmanuel Descampe.

Located just 3 kms from Golf de Rigenee is the spectacular ruin of a large Cistercian abbey, the Abbaye de Villers. It is located just north of the town of Villers-la-Ville. Founded in 1146, the abbey was largely built during the 13th century. The abbey's many buildings started to decline in the 16th century, when Spanish military invaders to the Low Countries did considerable damage to the church and cloister, both of which were partially restored in 1587. In the 17th and 18th centuries, the number of monks and the abbey's wealth dwindled and it was finally abandoned in 1796 during the French Revolution.
