Royal Bercuit Golf Club

4-star: Above average course - well worth a visit.

Est. 1965

Royal Bercuit Golf Club is home to a very good, though at times hilly course, laid out in a beautiful area of mature natural woodland. Designed by the legendary Robert Trent Jones Sr, Bercuit starts with four excellent tree-lined holes, alternating par-4s and 5s, before launching you downhill at the dramatically plunging and water-protected par-3 5th.

Much of the rest of the course is played through this often enchanting woodland, with some tight drives to make - especially at holes like the downhill par-4 10th and the par-5 12th. Not only are these two holes breathlessly tight, but they also require blind tee shots; not even sound "local knowledge" will guarantee you putt out with the ball you first hit from the tee.

For all those downhill holes you play, you can count on an "equal and opposite" number of uphill climbs, ensuring you get a good stretch of the legs during the round. Overall a pleasant and challenging course, with its predominantly strong woodland holes and a few decidedly "tricky" ones mixed in as well.

Did you know?

King Philippe I conferred the Royal prefix on Golf du Bercuit in 2017, based on the club attaining 50 years of age (in 2016) and certain other criteria (of which royal patronage is not necessarily one). Coincident with acquiring royal status, the club name changed from 'Golf du Bercuit' to 'Royal Bercuit Golf Club'.

In Belgium 13 golf clubs are permitted by royal prerogative to use the "Royal" prefix. They are: Antwerp, Anderlecht, Bercuit, Chateau d'Ardenne, des Fagnes (Spa), Hainaut, Latem, Limburg, Ostend, GC de Belgique (Ravenstein), Sart Tilman, Waterloo and Zoute.
