Where2Golf says:

Salmon Arm Golf Club: This pleasantly challenging golf course is situated in the heart of "Shuswap Country" just outside the popular tourist destination of Salmon Arm. The predominantly tree-lined layout, exuding both a parkland and mountain-style character, is laid out at the foot of an extinct volcanic cone (Mount Ida).

Always well-presented, the out-and-back design weaves its way through rolling and predominantly forested terrain. Although dramatic mountain and lake views are not really a feature here, the holes enjoy a picturesque backdrop courtesy of the surrounding pine clad hills. Without the intrusion of housing, there is always a natural feel to the course, even when it briefly skirts past Shuswap Regional Airport, a not overly busy local airstrip used by light aircraft.

There is plenty of variation in the mix of doglegging and straightaway holes, some tighter than others, some defended by small ponds, most by good-quality bunkering. A wonderful variety of indigenous cedars, firs and pines define the undulating fairways, usually with enough space between the trees to allow easy ball finding. Prodigiously sloping greens are often nicely elevated, as are many tee boxes. Only on a couple of occasions will you be required to make a blind drive.

The Swiss chalet-style clubhouse provides your starting point for the layout's final three hole loop. The attractive par-4 16th plays to an elevated green, while the short well-bunkered par-3 17th is framed by two towering fir trees standing sentinel behind the green. The risk-reward short par-5 18th brings you to a picturesque finish with a small menacing pond guarding the front-left side of the green.

Did you know?

The town of Salmon Arm sits at the southern end of one of the four principal arms of Shuswap Lake: Salmon Arm (south), Anstey Arm (northeast), Seymour Arm (northwest), and the main lake (west). Two defining features of the town are the extinct volcanos of Mt Bastion across the lake to the north and Mount Ida to the south. Just to the west of the town the Salmon River empties into Shuswap Lake, having made its way up through Silver Creek and passing to the west of Mt Ida. Salmon Arm is a popular tourist town in the summer, with many beaches, camping facilities and house boat rentals.
