Cabot St Lucia (Point Hardy)
Point Hardy Golf Club at Cabot St Lucia is home to another stunning Coore-Crenshaw design, the first Caribbean member of the Cabot Golf stable. Crafted from a magnificent natural landscape of oceanside cliffs and inland valleys, the layout offers a spectacular Caribbean golf experience.
Nine of the holes hug the Atlantic Ocean shoreline, among them the imperious closing stretch from the par-5 14th green through to the closing par-5 18th. Amongst them are thrilling back-to-back oceanside par-3s at 16 and 17, both with testing carries over inlets from the sea.
Perhaps not unsurprisingly, co-designer Bill Coore said, “you could make an argument that this is the most visually dramatic site with which we have ever worked and that is saying a lot.” A shame it would seem, that Cabot have pitched this jaw-dropping course as an essentially member, onsite homeowner and member-guest experience.
Limited access: this private course is generally playable only by members and their invited guests.
Private club; guests may generally only play if invited by a member. Outside visitors should contact the club to ascertain playing possibilities and associated fees.
Co-founded by Canadian businessman Ben Cowan-Dewar and American entrepreneur Mike Keiser (of Bandon Dunes fame), the Cabot Golf brand started out with two superb coastal courses (Cabot Links and Cabot Cliffs) on the island of Cape Breton in Nova Scotia. The brand's expansion now includes the Point Hardy Golf Club at Cabot St Lucia in the Carribean, Cabot Revelstoke (opens 2024) in central British Columbia, and Cabot Highlands in Scotland (home to the Castle Stuart Links).
World's 76th best course (GOLF Magazine, 2023/24).
Women’s (British) Open: the last women’s major championship of the season is hosted by Royal Porthcawl GC. It’s the first time this fabulous seaside links course has hosted the event (July 31-Aug 3).
Walker Cup: the 50th playing of this prestigious men’s amateur event sees the GB&I go head-to-head against the defending USA team at Cypress Point Club, California (Sept 6-7).
After that, all eyes turn to Bethpage State Park on Long Island, NY, where the American and defending European professional teams engage in the 45th Ryder Cup (Sept 27-29).
Lottie Woad: 21-year-old Woad burst onto the professional scene in July, with wins in the Women’s Irish Open (as an amateur) and three weeks later in the Women’s Scottish Open (as a professional). She nearly picked-up a major championship, placing third in The Evian in the same month.
Pádraig Harrington: the ever-likeable Irishman added the (British) Senior Open Championship title to his stellar array of tournament successes. His win came on Sunningdale’s spectacular Old Course. Harrington had already bagged the U.S. Senior Open title in June this year.
