Grand Reserve Golf Club: Located in the Río Grande area, amongst Puerto Rico's largest concentration of golf courses, Grand Reserve boasts 27 holes of Tom Kite-designed championship golf. Originally a 36-hole venue comprising the Championship and International courses, the latter has been trimmed to nine holes. The (former) International course retained its dramatic and scenic original front-nine, but lost its back-nine, which was routed through dense tropical forest.
The quality and attention to detail in Kite's design is clear to see as you tee-off toward the spectacular forested ridge of the El Yunque National Park. Although lacking the significant elevation changes of the International's front-nine, the Championship layout takes you on an expansive and absorbing journey into a variety of environments.
The early holes skirt some of resort's residential development, with small lakes creating many watery threats. The par-4 10th through to the significantly water-protected par-4 13th take you clockwise around a small lake, briefly getting you alongside the ocean at the par-4 12th.
The final loop from the par-4 14th to the 630 yard par-5 closing hole, is played alongside the access road to the resort hotel. The ocean is also in close attendance, but tucked away behind dense vegetation. From its carpet-like, rippling fairways to the expansive undulating greens and top-quality bunkering, this layout certainly lived up to its star billing amongst Puerto Rico's elite.
At the (former) International's second hole, you climb to a wonderfully elevated tee-box and then play back down the hill to a small, water-defended green. Another dramatic downhill par-3 is played as the 8th hole. Between these two plunging par-3s, the layout's front-nine takes you on an immensely scenic and natural journey. The holes are often quite tight, significantly undulating and lined with dense coastal vegetation. From several vantage points you will enjoy panoramic vistas over Coco Beach and onto the azure-blue Atlantic.

The Grand Reserve was formerly known as Trump International Puerto Rico and then Coco Beach Golf & Country Club. The resort now flys under the banner of Hyatt Regency hotels and resorts. Both the original courses (Championship and International) were designed by renowned Tour professional Tom Kite. The back-nine of the International course, which was routed through thick jungle, was closed down, leaving the Championship course and front-nine of the International course as the 27 holes still in play
Since 2008, the original Championship course at Grand Reserve has played host to the PGA Tour's Puerto Rico Open. The event has a habit of producing first-time winners on the world's richest professional golf tour. Among others, Tony Finau, Viktor Hovland and Alex Cejka all recorded their maiden Tour wins here.
