Playa Dorada
Playa Dorada Golf Course: a long way from the major golfing centres on the east coast (Punta Cana/Bavaro) and south coast (La Romana/Juan Dolio), the Playa Dorada resort is located in the north of Dominican Republic, near the busy oceanside town of Puerta Plata.
The Robert Trent Jones designed golf course here is predominantly used by golfers staying at any of the seven or eight resort hotels in Playa Dorada.
At times quite open, at others more tree-lined, this pleasant parkland course gracefully weaves its way around the Playa Dorada domain. Occasionally passing the resort hotels, the layout strikes down to the ocean for two or three beachside holes on each of the two nine-hole loops.
The flattish terrain, contrasting with impressive mountain vistas inland, makes Playa Dorada an easy walking course. With generally good-width fairways and nicely-shaped, flattish bunkering, this is a golf course on which handicappers of all levels can hone their skills.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends.
Must book in advance.
Walking permitted only with a caddie. Players using a cart must use at least one caddie per golf cart.

The origins of the Playa Dorada complex date back to 1976, when the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic funded the first developments in what was to become one of the island's largest resort developments.
Based on multiple resort hotels (now 14 in total), the complex offers the safety of a private enclave, located just 15 minutes from Puerto Plata International Airport, and 5 minutes from the picturesque village of Puerto Plata.
The facilities and amenities include an RTJ designed golf course, beach club, commercial centre, great variety of aquatic sports, tennis, limitless dining experiences and night life - thanks to more than 47 restaurants, 3 casinos, bars and discotheques.
