18 holes. Tree-lined & open parkland. Gently undulating terrain - a few slopes to climb.

The ten 18-hole golf courses at Mission Hills Haikou occupy two separate sections, each section with its own clubhouse.
The northern section (around the resort centre) is home to the following courses: BLACKSTONE (par-73; 7808 yds from back tees); VINTAGE (par-72; 7363 yds); SANDBELT TRAILS (par-72; 7297 yds) and STEPPING STONE (par-54; 2157 yds).
The southern section is home to the following courses: LAVA FIELDS (par-72; 7475 yds); MEADOW LINKS (par-72; 6673 yds); SHADOW DUNES (par-70; 6428 yds); STONE QUARRY (par-70; 6029 yds); THE PRESERVE (par-70; 6465 yds) and DOUBLE PIN (par-54; 1921 yds).
680 km to the north east of Mission Hills Haikou, a further seven courses can be found at Mission Hills Shenzhen and five at Mission Hills Dongguan.
20 km S of Haikou.
The Sandbelt Trails course at Mission Hills, Haikou was designed with the sandbelt courses around Melbourne, Australia in mind. The likes of Royal Melbourne, Kingston Heath and Metropolitan steered many of Brian Curley's design ideas for this well-rated and challenging layout.
A cornucopia of intimidating bunkering provides a constant threat from the tee and around the greens. While several bunkers blend into the native jungle vegetation without a clean edge, others rise above the fairway and green surfaces providing a clear and present threat. The layout's large undulating greens feature plenty of movement, while square teeing grounds add to the layout's distinctive character.
The gently rolling, often flattish terrain gives plenty of width from the tee, allowing alternative angles of attack for approach shots. Further enhancing the Australian feel, tall eucalyptus trees also make their presence felt. This well-crafted "sandbelt" design offers plenty of golfing challenge ... not least a thorough test for your shot-making from bunkers.
Mission Hills Haikou, home to no less than 10 golf courses, is one of the world's largest golf clubs (if not the largest). The courses range in size and stature from the highly-acclaimed Blackstone tournament and Lava Fields layouts, down to the more modestly-sized Stepping Stone and Double Pin executive courses.

Schmidt-Curley Design, and principally Brian Curley, laid out and built all ten layouts at Mission Hills Haikou on Hainan Island. The firm was also responsible for crafting ten of the 12 courses at the "World’s Largest Golf Club," namely the Mission Hills Golf Club in Guangdong province (formerly Canton). The 12 courses are spread between three closely grouped locations, midway between Shenzhen and Dongguan.
Co-founders of Schmidt-Curley, Lee Schmidt and Brian Curley, both worked alongside Pete Dye for several years. Recognition for their work includes consistently high rankings for many of their courses, and acknowledgement as one of the world’s “most influential” course design companies of the recent era.

West Coast; Haikou Meishi Intl; Meilan.
PGA Championship: the first men’s major of the year will be contested at TPC Harding Park, without spectators being present (Aug 6-9).
European Senior (Staysure) Tour: the Europe-based over-50s tour for men has taken the reluctant step of cancelling the entire 2020 season, based on the additional coronavirus risk associated with the age demographic of the players.
Traigh Golf Course (pronounced "try", and meaning "beach" in Gaelic): You'll find this nine-hole seaside gem on the scenic coast road (as opposed to the more inland and quicker A830) between Arisaig and Morar. Although not on the well-beaten path of Scotland's "trophy" courses, if you are passing through this area, it's a must play.
Cullen Links Golf Club: "immensely scenic", "quirky as golf can get", "short!", "hugely enjoyable" ... Cullen Links attracts as wide a variety of comments as it lays down golfing challenges. Shoehorned into this 4,600 yard treasure trove are ten par-3s, seven par-4s and a good-length par-5. Here you'll find all the seaside scenery a golfer could ask for, and a lot more besides.
