Bayou Oaks (South)
Bayou Oaks at City Park (South course): originally opened in 1902, the City Park complex quickly developed into a four golf course facility (North, South, East and West), with a busy and popular driving range.
Dealt a near fatal blow by the ravages of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, golf at City Park New Orleans took quite some time to recover ... but recover it did. The first phase of the restoration saw the par-68 North Course (originally opened in 1968), brought back into play in 2008. Thanks to the wonderful design work of Rees Jones, the 7,300 yard championship South course, came roaring back in 2017.
Played on the north side of Harrison Avenue and south of Filmore Avenue, the new course meanders through many of the park’s majestic live oak trees. The park's natural lagoons ensure water threatens on several of the excellently crafted holes.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends.
Must book in advance.

Bayou Oaks is a member of Louisiana's Audubon Golf Trail. The Trail was established in 2001, and includes 18 of the best public-access courses in the state. [See our entry for Audubon Park (Did You Know section) for a list of the Audubon Golf Trail courses].
The first golf course in City Park opened in 1901. By 2005, the park hosted four courses and a driving range, which accounted for 40% of the land in City Park, and contributed around 40% of the park's entire operating budget.
Following the ravages of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the former South course was transformed into the Big Lake & Festival Grounds. The southern half of the old East course was also converted for non-golf use. The northern section of the former East course, and the entire West course were absorbed into the new Rees Jones-designed Bayou Oaks South course. The North course and the driving range occupy the same areas as they did pre-Katrina.
From 1938 until 1962, City Park was home to the first 14 editions of the PGA Tour's New Orleans Open. It was played on what at the time was known as the No.1 (East) course, some of the holes of which are now much redesigned and integrated into the South course.
Sony Open in Hawaii: played at Waialae Country Club near Honolulu, the Sony Open takes over the spotlight from The Sentry as the PGA Tour’s calendar-year opening event (Jan 15-18). The Sentry (not being played in 2026) was formerly known as the Tournament of Champions, with a field typically restricted to golfers who won a PGA Tour event in the previous calendar year.
Dubai Desert Classic: the DP World Tour’s first Rolex Series event of 2026, is contested for the 37th time (Jan 22-25). First won by Englishman Mark James in 1989, it now boasts a four-time winner, Rory McIlroy. Played on the Emirates Golf Club’s Majlis course, this once desert-surrounded course is the long-time flagship for Golf in Dubai.
Our visit last month included two rounds at Golf de Chantilly, one of France’s most prestigious clubs.
It offers two superb layouts: Le Vineuil, a five-star championship course with a rich history, and Longères, an excellent four-star course that provides a strong and enjoyable test.
The wider Paris region offers plenty more. Courses such as Fontainebleau, Golf de Saint-Germain, and several other top-rated layouts make this area one of Europe’s most rewarding golf destinations, offering a mix of woodland, heathland, and parkland designs.
