The Silkeborg course at Silkeborg Ry Golfklub is one of the best championship golf courses in Denmark. Originally an 18-hole layout, this is where renowned European Tour golfer and Ryder Cup captain Thomas Bjørn honed his golfing skills as a youngster. The Great Dane, as Bjørn is known, played a key design role in extending the course to its present-day 27 holes.
The original West and South nines, and newer East-nine at Sylkeborg are gently carved out of a pine forest. The layout includes a mix of parkland and heathland habitats, some holes cut through flatter terrain, others considerably more hilly. There are doglegs and straightaways to contend with, and some generous fairways, with others much tighter and more exacting from the tee.
The three loops rotate on a weekly basis, offering an "18-hole course of the week" and a "nine-hole course of the week". Each nine-hole loop provides a wonderful test for your all-round game, with many attractive, skilfully crafted and challenging holes to enjoy.
Also owned and managed by the club is the Kildebjerg-Ry course, which is located 17 km south-east of its grander sibling, just outside the town of Ry.
Visitors welcome on weekdays and weekends.

Excellent
Silkeborg Ry Golf Club is the home club of legendary Danish golfer Thomas Bjørn, whose impressive career saw him record 15 European Tour wins, and many others all around the globe. In 2018 he captained the European Ryder Cup team to an impressive 17.5-10.5 win at Golf National in Paris.
Silkeborg course:
Denmark's 8th best course (Golf Digest, 2022).
Continental Europe's 112th best course (Golf World, 2025).
Sony Open in Hawaii: played at Waialae Country Club near Honolulu, the Sony Open takes over the spotlight from The Sentry as the PGA Tour’s calendar-year opening event (Jan 15-18). The Sentry (not being played in 2026) was formerly known as the Tournament of Champions, with a field typically restricted to golfers who won a PGA Tour event in the previous calendar year.
Dubai Desert Classic: the DP World Tour’s first Rolex Series event of 2026, is contested for the 37th time (Jan 22-25). First won by Englishman Mark James in 1989, it now boasts a four-time winner, Rory McIlroy. Played on the Emirates Golf Club’s Majlis course, this once desert-surrounded course is the long-time flagship for Golf in Dubai.
Our visit last month included two rounds at Golf de Chantilly, one of France’s most prestigious clubs.
It offers two superb layouts: Le Vineuil, a five-star championship course with a rich history, and Longères, an excellent four-star course that provides a strong and enjoyable test.
The wider Paris region offers plenty more. Courses such as Fontainebleau, Golf de Saint-Germain, and several other top-rated layouts make this area one of Europe’s most rewarding golf destinations, offering a mix of woodland, heathland, and parkland designs.
The Dutch: "It's no' just a game", as they say in Scotland, and that's certainly true at The Dutch. With 5-star services throughout, a lavishly comfortable Loch Lomond-inspired clubhouse, and a superbly designed and presented golf course, one could not ask for more from this top-end private club.
