10 miles S of Chester
FROM NANTWICH follow the A51 west, direction Chester / Wrexham. After 1.5 miles at traffic lights, take the A534 direction Wrexham. After 12.5 miles Carden Park is on your left. FROM CHESTER head south on the A41, direction Whitchurch. After approx 10 miles turn right onto the A534 direction Wrexham. After 1 mile Carden Park is on your left.
Carden Park Hotel, Golf Resort & Spa (Cheshire course): Carden Park, located in the heart of Cheshire's pleasantly rolling countryside, is home to two contrasting 18-hole championship golf courses (as well as a 9-hole par-3 course and a teaching academy).
The playing characteristics of the Cheshire course resonate more with those of a classic British heathland course, in contrast to the more water-laden features of Carden Park's slightly longer and tougher Nicklaus layout. Although the threat posed by water and bunkering is less pronounced on the Cheshire, you'll need to concentrate on hitting the generally straight or slightly dog-legging fairways, while avoiding the often punishing grassy rough that lies beyond them.
Water does make one or two telling appearances, especially alongside the fairways of the short par-4 3rd and 18th holes, and off the tee and around the green at the short par-4 12th.
The gently undulating and relatively open terrain of most of the layout gives way to a more wooded feel on the closing stretch, as the course plays up and into a copse of trees.
Pick of the holes: from its higher elevation, the tee-box of the excellent, downhill par-4 18th, provides a wonderful panorama out onto the Cheshire countryside and across to Wales (which is only three miles away to the west).

The history of Carden Park dates back to the early 17th century, when the land was acquired by the Leche Family. An elegant Hall was built and the grounds of the park landscaped and stocked with deer. The Hall survived a ransacking by Oliver Cromwell's troops during the English Civil War (1642-1651), but did not survive a partygoers cigarette, resulting in it burning down in 1912. Photographs of the Hall show a decorated timber framed building, which is reflected in the rebuilt Hotel which you see today.
