Cuddington Golf Club: this Harry Colt designed championship course sits comfortably in its leafy Surrey countryside surroundings. The two nine-hole loops make their way out-and-back across the relatively open chalk-based downland of Banstead Downs.
With a relatively open parkland-downland feel (thanks to much recent tree clearance), both nines start alongside the impressive crescent-shaped clubhouse. The par-5 1st and par-4 10th holes slope gently downhill from the characterful brick-built clubhouse, and both offer far-reaching views across West London.
The second hole, also a par-5, reinforces Cuddington's main traits. Much in evidence are good-width flattish fairways, a more than generous measure of second cut rough, and large stylish sand-faced bunkers, which handsomely define many of the holes. Colt's classic cross-bunkering is found at the long par-4 7th. The green complexes also play their part. All manner of mounds, swales, ridges and hollows ensure that "up-and-down-in-two" is never a given.
With its generous width holes and gentle slopes, Cuddington is an easy-walking layout. The elevation changes are gentle, never overly dramatic. Quiet woodland surrounds the course perimeter, with roads to be crossed on a couple of occasions to access the 4-3-4 combinations at 3 thru' 5, and 7 thru' 9.
Pick of the holes: without an obvious "signature" hole, one has to admire the gentle uphill long par-4 18th. Two good larrups are needed to hit the green, which is framed by the Club's stylish single-storey clubhouse.

Laid out on easy-draining chalk grassland, Cuddington Golf Club occupies part of the open fields and wooded areas of Banstead Downs. Sitting alongside the course to the east is the Banstead Downs Golf Club (designed by James Braid).
Sony Open in Hawaii: played at Waialae Country Club near Honolulu, the Sony Open takes over the spotlight from The Sentry as the PGA Tour’s calendar-year opening event (Jan 15-18). The Sentry (not being played in 2026) was formerly known as the Tournament of Champions, with a field typically restricted to golfers who won a PGA Tour event in the previous calendar year.
Dubai Desert Classic: the DP World Tour’s first Rolex Series event of 2026, is contested for the 37th time (Jan 22-25). First won by Englishman Mark James in 1989, it now boasts a four-time winner, Rory McIlroy. Played on the Emirates Golf Club’s Majlis course, this once desert-surrounded course is the long-time flagship for Golf in Dubai.
Our visit last month included two rounds at Golf de Chantilly, one of France’s most prestigious clubs.
It offers two superb layouts: Le Vineuil, a five-star championship course with a rich history, and Longères, an excellent four-star course that provides a strong and enjoyable test.
The wider Paris region offers plenty more. Courses such as Fontainebleau, Golf de Saint-Germain, and several other top-rated layouts make this area one of Europe’s most rewarding golf destinations, offering a mix of woodland, heathland, and parkland designs.
The Dutch: "It's no' just a game", as they say in Scotland, and that's certainly true at The Dutch. With 5-star services throughout, a lavishly comfortable Loch Lomond-inspired clubhouse, and a superbly designed and presented golf course, one could not ask for more from this top-end private club.
